Dear friends, Today we will see how to create RAID1 on HP DL360 Gen11 server. So let’s start and see step by step this process. Before RAID1 creation lets’ see small introduction about RAID1.
What is RAID1?
RAID 1 stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks 1. The process of keeping a duplicate of the same data on a different disc is called RAID 1, or disc mirroring. Here, the data is saved in a duplicate copy on a different disc rather than being divided into blocks. In RAID, at least two discs are needed.
Advantages of RAID 1
- RAID 1 provides applications with increased data security. In case, one of the disks fails, the other disk contains a duplicate copy of the same data. Thus, RAID 1 provides a good fault tolerance.
- Data redundancy is provided in RAID 1.
- RAID 1 provides good performance for the read operation.
Disadvantages of RAID 1
- In RAID 1 , the write operation is slower as compared to the read operation.
- Here, there is a wastage of storage space as we keep the same data in two different disks.
- The cost incurred in RAID 1 is high
We will follow these steps to create RAID1 on HP DL360 Gen 11 server.
- Login through BMC IP and go to console windows
- Reset the server and select system utilities with the help of F9 button
- Go to the system configuraion
- Select Storage controller
- Configure the RAID1 and save the configurations
- Verify created RAID1 on HP DL360 server.
- Exit from system utilities and boot the server
1. Login through BMC IP and go to console windows
Login in to the server through ILO IP and Click on console windows and then select HTML5 console.
After that you will get console windows like below. Once the console windows open the click on maximize button to maximize console windows.
2. Reset the server and select system utilities with the help of F9 button
Click on menu a Power a Reset after that you will get this windows then click ok.
Then select F9 system utilities.
3. Go to the system configuration.
After that you will get this window.
4. Select Storage controller
Select system configuration and then select OCP slot 14 RAID controller.
After that you have to select main menu.
After men menu you will get this window where you can verify Hardware RAID is create or not on clicking logical drive management option.
You can see here we don’t have any logical drive (RAID) present.
5. Configure the RAID1 and save the configurations
So, let’s create logical drive RAID1 on 2 disks. From main menu click on configuration management.
Then select create logical drive.
I have 2 disks where I want to create RAID1, so I have selected both disk for RAID1. You can see here. After disk selection click on ok.
Then confirm and click on yes.
After that you will get this below window. Where you have to select RAID level and then you have click on Select drives.
After that you will get this window, where you have to select both disk and click on Apply changes.
Then you will get this window where you have to click on ok
After that you will get this window where you have to click on save configuration.
Then you have to confirm and click on yes
Now you can see operation has been successfully completed. Click on OK.
Logical drive successfully completed.
6. Verify created RAID1 on HP DL360 server.
Now we can verify our logical drive (RAID1) is created or not?
To verify the logical drive go to the main menu and select logical drive management.
Then you can see here our RAID1 is available.
6. Exit from system utilities and boot the server
To exit the system utilities click on exit button.
And click ok
After that you will exit from system utilities and system is ready for OS installation.
